Bloomberg LP launches Japan's Multi-bank Electronic Platform for FX transactions

Tokyo, 6 February 2001 – About ¥58trn change hands in the FX market in Asia daily. A large part of this comes from Japan. Recognising this, the BLOOMBERG PROFESSIONAL™ Service is unveiling initiatives to further boost liquidity and accessibility of the FX market by joining with Commerzbank, Scotia Capital, Credit Lyonnais and Credit Agricole Indosuez to offer institutional investors highly competitive FX rates through the introduction of an Electronic FX Platform. This move forms Japan's fully-automated, "click and trade," on-line FX trading on Bloomberg.

Taking the lead from Japan, the product will be launched throughout Asia over the next month and will bring together each bank's expertise in foreign exchange operations with Bloomberg's global high-speed proprietary digital network and extensive customer base.

"The introduction of this FX product now allows investors to follow the markets, conduct extensive analysis and execute their trades on one single Bloomberg Platform." said Paul Goldi, Head of Treasury & Foreign Exchange, Commerzbank, Japan. "In addition to other financial instruments currently executable over the Bloomberg, our customers will now be able to execute FX transactions with the same ease, speed and reliability."

"We are excited that Bloomberg is recognized as the pre-eminent global electronic platform," said James Mahn, FX Applications Manager for Bloomberg LP. "We believe that such partnerships are significant steps in facilitating better price transparency and in unlocking the growth potential of the currency markets."

In the initial stage, the system will provide investors with real time pricing with order confirmations returned instantly. Investors will also be able to allocate trades across several accounts and have access to historical information and account reconciliation on all trades at all times.
